5 7 Navy Seal - Navy boot camp lasts seven to eight weeks, depending on timing. Navy Boot Camp is housed at Recruit Training Headquarters (RTC) in Great Lakes, Illinois, which is near Chicago. At Boot Camp, civilian recruits become sailors for the Navy. During their stay at the RTC, recruits are exposed to physical training and military discipline. They are trained in subjects such as seamanship, small arms knowledge, swimming certificate, fire fighting and ship damage control. Naval history, traditions and core values are an integral part of the boot camp regime, and recruits are constantly taught and quizzed on these topics. After graduating from boot camp, sailors are sent to their A-schools where they will be trained for the specific job they will be doing when they arrive in the Navy.

SEAL stands for sea, air and land and thus recognizes the Navy SEAL's versatile ability to wage war. Navy SEALs are trained to enter and operate in marine environments. They are certified in military free-fall operations and static line operations to penetrate air combat space. They are highly trained in ground warfare. SEALs are just as comfortable fighting in the mountains of Afghanistan as they are operating a SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean.
SWCC stands for Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman. SWCCs specialize in maritime special operations, operating high-speed and high-performance special operations vessels. Like SEALs, SWCCs are certified in military free fall and static line, allowing them to be deployed anywhere in the world. SWCCs are extensively trained in both small arms and heavy weapons and trained in land warfare and small boat operations and tactics, making them a versatile force.

There are eight conventional SEAL teams. In addition, there are two SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) teams, two reserve SEAL teams, and a Navy Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), informally known as SEAL Team 6.
SEAL Teams 1, 3, 5, 7 and Reserve Team 17 are located in Coronado, California. SEAL Teams 2, 4, 8, 10, Reserve Team 18 and DEVGRU are located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. SDV 1 is in Pearl Harbor, HI and SDV 2 is in Virginia Beach, VA.
There are three conventional special boat crews. Special Boat Team 12 is in Coronado, CA, Special Boat Team 22 in Stennis, MS, and Special Boat Team 20 in Virginia Beach, VA. SWCCs also serve as operators in the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Development Group (DEVGRU), officially known as SEAL Team 6. Reserve SWCCs are assigned to SEAL Team 18.
Since the global war on terror began after September 11, 2001, 17 Navy personnel have lost their lives in training accidents. SEAL training is inherently dangerous and requires operators to push it to the limit to prepare for combat deployments.

The entire Navy SEAL training pipeline is 58 weeks long. SEAL training is divided into six training segments:
The entire Navy SWCC training pipeline is 39 weeks long. SWCC training is divided into four training segments:
For years, Navy SEALs carried the Sig Sauer P226. Over the past few years, Naval Special Warfare (NSW) has transitioned to the Glock 19. This has been a very contentious issue with passionate supporters on both sides. The Glock 19 fires 9 mm bullets and has a magazine capacity of 15 rounds. The Glock is slightly smaller and lighter than the P226. It is easy to disassemble and clean and has a reputation for working flawlessly in the worst conditions.
For years Navy SWCCs carried the Sig Sauer P228, a smaller version of the venerable P226. Over the past few years Naval Special Warfare (NSW) has also switched to the Glock 19. The Glock is slightly larger but lighter than the P228.

Navy SEALs are beginning to transition to the Glock 19. But SEALs have used the Sig Sauer P226 for years because of its chrome-lined barrel and chamber, stainless steel slide, and nitron coating, which made it an ideal weapon for use in harsh saltwater environments. The reliability, accuracy, and ability to break down and clean easily made the P226 an ideal weapon for Navy SEALs.
In addition to the above reasons, the compact nature of the P228 made it a perfect weapon to carry close while operating on special operations boats.
SEALs are trained in the use of conventional open circuit SCUBA diving equipment. This allows them to dive up to 300 feet or so. In addition, SEALs are thoroughly trained in the use of a special rebreather device known as a Draeger. Diving seals rarely go deeper than 50 feet.
An active duty Marine cannot become a Navy SEAL. In order to undergo Navy SEAL training, a person must be a member of the Navy. An active-duty Marine who wants to transfer to the Navy to participate in SEAL training can apply for a parole, but the chances of it being approved are slim to none. If a Marine wants to be a SEAL, they will likely have to finish their contract and then go to a Navy SEAL to re-enlist and get a SEAL contract.

As mentioned, a Marine who wants to become a SWCC will likely have to finish his contract and then go to a Navy corpsman to re-enlist and get a SWCC contract. Over the years, the role of the special operations community has grown. Prominent throughout the country and throughout the world. One group that often comes to mind is the US Navy SEALs. An elite unit that has participated in every conflict since Vietnam. They were involved in many secret missions, some of which have now been canceled and others remain shrouded in secrecy.
The Navy SEALs were officially created in 1962 to meet the need for a unit capable of operating from sea, air and land, using guerilla and guerilla tactics against the enemy. Although 1962 was when the SEALs became their own unit, they trace their lineage back to World War II, where their legacy of participating in daring missions on the water began. Several units are considered contributors to the Navy SEALs we know today.
Senior American commanders recognized that many of the operations of World War II would involve large-scale beach landings. To prepare and conduct these landings, the US Army recognized the need for a unit capable of conducting beach patrols and instructing landing craft. The group identified to fulfill this role were the scouts and raiders. The unit was a combination of selected army and naval personnel. They were brought to Amphibious Training Base (ATB) Little Creek to undergo amphibious scout and bandit (joint) training. Their training was in preparation for Operation Torch in North Africa. They would go on to see combat in Sicily, Anzio, Salerno and Normandy.
Naval Combat Demolition Units (NCDUs) also completed their training at ATB Little Creek, beginning in 1942. They specialized in explosives and commando attack techniques. NCDUs would also do this
